On the afternoon of December 29, the official website of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council's (SASAC) discipline inspection commission's announced that the former general manager of China Unicom's Information Technology and E-Commerce Division, Zong Xinhua, and the vice president and general manager of China Unicom's Network Construction Branch, Zhang Zhijiang, had allegedly committed serious violations and were currently under investigation by the SASAC.

On the evening of December 17, China Unicom's official website announced that, as Mr. Zong was suspected of serious violations according the Central Eighth Inspection Team, China Unicom's party research group decided to dismiss him.

Following the dismissal, two days ago China Unicom announced that given Mr. Zhang Zhijiang had also allegedly committed serious violations, he would be removed from his post.

According to informed sources, over the weekend Mr. Zong was taken away by the investigation team, Xinhua. Prior to this, despite Mr. Zong's dismissal, he was still going to work at China Unicom.

On November 27, central inspection teams were stationed in China Unicom. On December 26, after a month of visitations, the inspection teams were removed from China Unicom, though analysts say another anti-corruption storm may be brewing at the telecom giant.
